LETTER: Miele misses the mark

| November 6, 2016 10:30 AM

Mr. Miele’s Oct. 30 column regarding Gianforte’s position on the sales tax accuses Democrats of “smear”ing Gianforte for a statement he made in 2002, supporting a sales tax.

“That was 14 years ago, folks.” The column goes on to claim that the Bullock campaign is ignoring “14 years of history.” Really? Nowhere in the column is there any reference where Gianforte abjured his 2002 statement until last years’ repositioning, during his gearing up for the governors’ race.

Policy epiphany or political expediency?

As such, I don’t think it unreasonable to believe that Gianforte supported a sales tax until at least last year. So, who is ignoring “14 years of history”? —Jack Beaver, Kalispell
