LETTER: Thanks for explanation

| November 6, 2016 10:45 AM

For a while now I have been bombarded by literature from various candidates.

I couldn’t help but find the contest for the seat of governor a little aggravating and confusing. I didn’t care to credit the accusations coming from the Bullock camp, but I’m from Oregon where there has been an ongoing battle against a sales tax for more than a few years. I haven’t lived here long enough to have my own assessment on what I was reading. I have long voted Republican, but for someone who may support a sales tax? It seemed a little far-fetched for me, but not having much history here, I couldn’t be certain.

Thank you very much for Mr. Miele’s column in the Oct. 30 edition of your paper that explained the history. The clarification was welcome.

I cannot help but notice some ironies here about Gov. Bullock. A candidate who loves to hurl accusations but isn’t willing to answer questions? Reminds me of a current presidential candidate.

Elsewhere in that edition someone started out their commentary with the German word “Achtung” — essentially addressing anyone who supports Trump as some kind of fascist or supporter of a fascist. yet both this individual and Bullock seem to passionately follow that old adage about the “masses” of people more readily accepting a big lie than a small one.

Do I need to mention that the adage I just mentioned can be found in a book titled “Mein Kampf”? —Mickey Cavanaugh, Ronan
