LAW ROUNDUP: Missing friend had reason for lying low

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office took a report from a man who was concerned that a longtime friend had gone missing. Police contacted the suspected missing man, who said that he had just been avoiding the person who called police because of an old debt. 

A man complained that two cows had walked onto his property in Marion and destroyed his orchard. The man managed to corral the bovines so the brand inspector might locate their owner. 

A deputy investigated a case where someone on Shady Lane had accidentally discharged a firearm into someone else’s home. Fortunately, there was no one home at the time of the event. 

A man outside of Columbia Falls did not want to file charges against his daughter because it might hurt her chances at a better life, after she allegedly took her mother’s camera and pawned it. The man said the woman had a gambling problem and had also allegedly gambled away a $25,000 loan. 

Officers found that only a pellet gun was in play after someone complained about four young adults possibly shooting a .22 in an unsafe manner on U.S. 2. 

An officer determined that there were no violations after someone reported that a man appeared to have been hunting from Wishart Road. 


Whitefish Police Department took a report from Lupfer Avenue, where a woman reported that about $2,500 had been stolen from her bank account. 

Officers warned a woman on Cedar Street that incessant barking from her dog could lead to a citation. 

Officers took a report about a man who was thrown out of a bar after he allegedly threw some punches. 

A man came into the police station bleeding, saying that he had been jumped near the intersection of Railway and Central Avenue. He refused medical treatment. Officers were unable to locate a suspect.


Columbia Falls Police Department received a request for extra patrol on Talbot Road after someone reported that people had been banging on her window at around midnight.


Kalispell Police Department took a report from a restaurant manager who reported that two separate checks for more than $100 had been returned. 

A woman wanted to report her daughter’s vehicle as stolen. The daughter had been taken to a mental health facility the day before. The officer also answered questions about how the daughter’s belongings might be handled while she was away. 

Someone reported that license plates had been stolen from a vehicle on U.S. 93. 

Someone complained about a protester with profanity on her sign at Depot Park. 

An officer got a transient person to move along from a bus stop on Third Avenue East North after two people complained he was sleeping there. One of the callers was afraid the man might freeze to death. 

Officers were unable to locate a suspect after someone complained that a person was flashing a strobe light at vehicles at an undisclosed location. 

A man asked for help in getting a vehicle he had rented back fromthe person he gave it to. The man said he had rented the vehicle for a woman he had hired as a secretary. He later found out she was allegedly a prostitute. 

A woman reported that her wallet had been stolen from a vehicle on U.S. 2. She had a suspect in mind. 

A man reported that a fire extinguisher fell from a truck and exploded on North Main Street. It did not cause enough of a mess to cause a traffic hazard. 

A rifle was reported stolen from a vehicle on Ninth Avenue West. 

A resident on Third Avenue West requested assistance with a bird that had gotten its head stuck in a fence.
