LETTER: Flag photo promotes idea of divisiveness

| November 20, 2016 7:00 AM

I take exception to the photo on the front page of the Nov. 17 edition showing a Confederate flag. This flag represents divisiveness and racism and is certainly not patriotic. The appearance of the flag is a well-documented source of contention in our country.

While freedom of speech is respected in the United States, the choice of our local newspaper to print this photo was poor. The last thing this country needs following the recent election is another four years of divisiveness. Americans need to appreciate the fact that the country is evenly split in their choice for a president. What we all have in common is that we are Americans, regardless of race, color, religion or ethnicity.

At some point we need to focus on what unites us as opposed to what divides us and begin working together to find common ground. The photo on the front page does not help. —Joe Grabowski, West Glacier
