LAW ROUNDUP: Wascally wabbits wear out welcome

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office took a call from a man on Ashley Hills Drive who was counseled about bunny-eradication options after someone in the neighborhood let a bunch of young domestic rabbits loose. 

A deputy took a call from Birch Grove Road, where someone complained about a dead deer that was in his or her driveway. Someone had cut the antlers off the buck and left its body. The meat was not salvageable. The carcass was taken to the county landfill.

Someone reported that his or her 2016 Nissan Altima that had been stolen over the weekend had been recovered, but had a different, older set of wheels and tires on the vehicle.

A teen already on probation was allegedly caught running a school fundraising scam in Columbia Falls. He allegedly took money from two teachers for the fundraiser but never gave them their popcorn. He also was accused of taking candy bars from the school. The student was suspended, but charges were not filed.

A woman reported her purse had been possibly stolen from an Evergreen store, but store management called back later and said that the bag had been found safe and sound and reunited with its owner.

A man asked for help after he allegedly gave a business in Evergreen a fraudulent check and didn’t like the store’s reaction. As punishment, the store had put up a sign that said “Thanks for the bad check,” in its window, and addressed the man by name. The man was given the store owner’s number to try to sort the incident out.

A man in Kila reported that his vehicle’s hood and roof had been damaged. The man did not have any idea how it might have occurred.

A man was told about how to get a no-contact order after someone left him a message that began with “I hope you die.” The man had an idea of where the anonymous message might have come from.

A woman reported that her purse and work bag had been stolen from a laundry facility in Columbia Falls.

A deputy found that a man in Bigfork was fine after someone reported that he had left a medical facility against the advice of health professionals, with his bags packed on top of his walker. Someone picked the man up and he had gotten a place to stay at a nearby inn.

A man called to check and see if a gun he was purchasing from a friend had ever been stolen. The gun was brought to the station after its serial number was determined to have been the same as one listed as stolen.

A stolen gun was recovered after someone reported suspected spotlighting on the North Fork Road.


Columbia Falls Police logged a report after a man and woman were allegedly physically fighting on Fifth Avenue East North over the custody of a child.

An officer was dispatched after someone reported that a homeless man had come into a public gathering place. No one was comfortable with telling the man to leave. He left of his own accord after police were called.

No damage was reported after someone allegedly pulled into a gas station, hit a pump and then asked other customers where to get drugs.


Whitefish Police Department sent an officer to issue a citation after two large Newfoundlands were reported as chasing a man and his wife down Minnesota Avenue.


Kalispell Police received a call from someone who was concerned when they discovered items in their wheelchair-accessible van that made it look like someone had been sleeping in the vehicle.

Officers answered a concerned grandparent’s questions after they said a stranger left a flyer on their grandson’s car in a parking lot.

Someone called the police when they saw chickens running around their neighborhood.

A Kalispell resident on Fourth Street West told officers a teenage boy threw a rock through the window of her front door.

Someone reported they found two small dogs, a “weiner dog and a fuzzy dog with a flat face” wandering around Denver Avenue.
