Facebook fan finds a stolen SUV
An alert person called Kalispell Police to report spotting a stolen Toyota 4 Runner on Second Avenue West. The caller was “just driving by and saw it and recognized it from Facebook.” Sure enough, a call to the National Crime Information Center confirmed that the SUV was reported as stolen. Flathead County Sheriff’s Office recovered the vehicle.
A woman with a thick accent in called 911 from a Kalispell hotel “wanting to know what her bank balance is.” She was advised that this is one of the many services that are not handled by police dispatch, and front desk at the hotel apparently was able to assist the woman.
Someone stole a cellphone at a grocery store when a woman put it down momentarily. Store manager has video of the culprit.
A storage shed was broken into behind a business on West Center Street.
Bikes turned up without explanation in yards on 10th Avenue West and Third Avenue West North. Meanwhile, a stolen bike was found behind a business on U.S. 2 West that had originally been taken from Liberty Street.
A caller told Columbia Falls Police she was worried about a couple who were new to town and were living in a van at a gas station. Authorities made contact and found out the couple moved here from elsewhere in Montana and are trying to make a clean start after getting off meth eight days ago.
A man who is renovating his home discovered that it was broken into and all his tools are missing.
Whitefish Police responded to West Second Street where a deer had been struck by a vehicle. The deer was in “rough shape” and had to be “dispatched.”
Someone walking on Edgewood Place found a wallet and turned it in.
On Sunday, a caller told 911 that he needed an “investigator — not a police officer” but never really explained why. He gave an address that turned out to be fictitious, and when asked where he was from, only replied “international, international, international.” He was never located, so the “investigation” is apparently at a dead end.
Kalispell Fire Department performed an elevator rescue Saturday morning on Third Avenue East.
Coram/West Glacier Fire Department responded to a grass fire on U.S. 2 around 8:30 Saturday evening.
