Benefit bike ride at West Glacier

A fundraising bicycle ride in support of well-known cross-country cyclist Shelli Snyder, who was struck by a car on Sept. 18 while riding in Coram, is planned for 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16.

Riders will gather in West Glacier at the Alberta Visitors Center and ride either along the new bike path toward Hungry Horse or into Glacier National Park toward Logan Pass.

Snyder, a prominent Ohio cyclist and co-founder of Bike Cleveland, was en route from her hometown of Cleveland to Seattle when she was hit from behind by a car traveling 65 miles per hour on U.S. 2 a few miles short of West Glacier. She suffered a fractured skull along with arm and leg injuries and spent 10 days fighting for her life while in Intensive Care at Kalispell Regional Medical Center before returning home where she will continue her struggle to live and recover.

Friends and family nationwide have raised more than $76,000 to date for medical and legal expenses. More than 1,000 individuals and businesses have contributed. Many from the Flathead, particularly the on-scene first responders, have donated time and money in support of Snyder and safe cycling.

Kalispell cyclist Patrick Malone invites all two, three or four-wheel cyclists to participate in a non-supported, charity bike ride titled “240 Minutes for Healing, Health and Hope” on Sunday, Oct. 16 (one month after her collision).

At 4:30 p.m. participants will gather at the Belton-Stage/U.S. 2 intersection and share a moment of prayer and reflection for Snyder and any cyclist struck by vehicles.

By inviting friends, family, co-workers and church members to donate 10 cents or more per mile participants will join a national campaign originally called the “Shelli Snyder Medical and Beer Fund.” All money raised will be donated to her GoFundMe site.

Cyclists are challenged to ride for 240 minutes — one minute for every hour Snyder spent hospitalized in Kalispell and join her struggle for life with their hopes and prayers.

For further information contact Malone at pcmwccc@hotmail.com.
