Marian E. Smart, 82

Marian E. Smart, 82, passed away Oct. 6, 2016, at Brendan House in Kalispell.

Marian was born April 15, 1934, in Portland, Oregon, to Robert C. and Mary Jane (Bushek) Hermann. She attended Boise Elementary School and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1952.

She married Marlin L. “Mel” Smart May 13, 1969. Marian and Mel moved to Kalispell January 1979.

Marian worked for CPAs, in both Portland and Kalispell, for 43 years and retired in 1999. She was a member of the Kalispell Lions Club and chairman of the club’s Sight and Hearing Committee for many years, and was named Montana Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation Foundation Fellow. She received the International Lions Clubs’ highest award, being named a Melvin Jones Fellow. Having bad eyesight from the time she was very young, she enjoyed helping provide eyeglasses to people in the valley.

She had a great love of animals.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and husband.

She is survived by her half brother Robert Hermann and stepdaughter Beverly Smart of Kalispell, niece Karla Smart Morstad of Morehead, Minnesota, and nephew Gary Schouch of Spokane Valley, Washington.

She wished to be cremated and buried with her husband in C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.

Graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Conrad Cemetery.
