Glacier senior Destiny Dachs netted a school-record four goals as the Wolfpack blanked Flathead 4-0 in a Western AA soccer match on Thursday at Glacier High School.

Dachs, who had only two goals this season, benefitted from some of the attention the Bravettes paid to teammate Cadie Williams, who scored four goals of her own in the first crosstown match. That allowed Dachs to get a series of good looks, including the first goal of the game which came as she found open space at the top of the 13-yard box and released a shot with her left foot into the top corner of the goal.

Later in the half, Dachs received a quick pass from Williams on a free kick and chipped a shot over a few defenders into the net to give the Wolfpack a 2-0 lead with nine minutes to play in the half.

Flathead looked to half the score in the closing minutes, but an apparent goal from Zina Loudermilk was waved off by the officials for a hand bal.

Flathead also got the first scoring try of the second half, letting loose a shot four minutes in that forced Glacier keeper Maddie Armstrong off her line to make the save.

A minute later, Glacier had regained control and nearly scored before Flathead sweeped the ball off the goal line and back out of harm’s way.

On a pair of corners in the 53rd minute, Williams threw a pair of headers on goal only for Flathead keeper Aaris Hill to also keep the net clear and the score in check.

“Aaris had several outstanding saves,” Bravettes coach Jenni Sipe said. “She really read the ball well.”

That comfort only lasted a minute. On the next rush, Glacier crossed a pass into the box that was mishandled by the Flathead keeper, and Dachs was close enough to bury in the rebound to complete her hat trick.

A Flathead chance off a free kick from Sara Clarin rang off the crossbar a few minutes before Dachs scored her fourth. Glacier earned a corner kick in the 70th minute and Gabbi Dickson sent a pass into the box that Dachs chested toward the goal, watching as it to bounced off a defender into the back of the net.

Flathead’s last chance to get on the board came with 3:30 to play, but a scrum in front of the net was kept in front of Armstrong and Glacier killed the final few minutes for the victory.

“I think we know we can do better,” Sipe said.

“We’re still working on trying to get the ball in the back of the net. We had several close ones.”

Glacier outshot Flathead 19-7 in the contest and had 11 corner kicks to the Bravettes two.

“It’s so hard to play a team like this that’s up and coming,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said.

“Flathead has played excellent its last few games and they’ve stayed in games. The girls just went at it. The man-marking on Cadie left Destiny open for four goals. Sometimes that’s going to happen. We have other girls that can score, too.”

The two teams will play again next week in a postseason play-in game. The winner travels to face either Missoula Hellgate or Big Sky for a chance to get into the state tournament, which will be held in Kalispell starting Oct. 27.
