Wildlife officials captured a grizzly bear in the Upper Ford area of the Yaak on Oct. 10 after the bear entered a chicken coop and fed on grain.

The homeowners alerted Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks immediately and a bear management specialist loaned the homeowners an electrified fence to secure the chicken coop. A trap was also set and the bear was captured within 12 hours.

The 285-pound 3-year-old male grizzly was collared and relocated to the upper Spread Creek drainage in the Yaak on Oct. 11.

The incident marks the second grizzly bear to be captured for management reasons in the Cabinet-Yaak recovery area in 2016.
