OUTDOORS BRIEFS: Hunter sight-in at Bigfork Gun Club

The Bigfork Gun Club is hosting a hunters’ sight-in day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.

Non-club members may sight in their rifles. The cost is $5 per rifle. Benches, bags and targets will be provided. Experienced shooters will be on hand to spot shots and assist. Bring your own ammunition, ear and eye protection.

The club is located on the Swan Highway (Montana 83), 1 mile south of the Montana state gravel pit and Lake County Dumpster sites.


Youth photo contest

Youth have a chance to show off their creativity and love of the outdoors by entering the 2016 Nature in Focus Youth Photography Contest on the Whitefish Trail.

Professional photographers and artists will judge entries in two age groups, ages 12 to 14 and 15 to 18, with three winners and three honorable mentions from each group. Photos must be taken on the Whitefish Trail and can include wildlife (birds, mammals, insects, spiders, reptiles and amphibians), landscapes, native plants, people using the trail system, or patterns in nature.

Winning photos will be published in the Whitefish Pilot, and winning photographers will receive cash prizes — First place, $100, second place $50 and third place, $25. Contest rules and registration information is available on www.whitefishlegacy.org.

The deadline to submit photos is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21.
