COMMUNITY BRIEFS: Halloween Trunk or Treat

Cash prizes will be awarded for the best decorated vehicle trunks at Flathead Valley Community College’s third annual Trunk or Treat event on Halloween. FVCC is seeking people to decorate their vehicle trunks and hand out treats to children during the event.

The FVCC Veterans’ Association and Student Government groups will host the Trunk or Treat from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 in the west facing parking lot on campus. The event is free and open to the public, offering a safe one-stop trick-or-treating venue for families.

FVCC will provide the treats for distribution, and there is no cost to participate.

Creston Fire Soup for Supper

The Creston Fire Department hosts its annual Soup for Supper fundraiser from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the station, 4498 Montana 35, in Kalispell.

More than 20 soups and chowders, salads, rolls and desserts will be available. Dine in or take out; however, no outside containers will be allowed.

Donations will be appreciated and all proceeds benefit the Creston Fire Department.

Creston Fire CPR classes

The Creston Fire Department is also offering an adult, infant and child CPR/obstructed airway class for community members starting at 6 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Creston Fire Station.

The class is taught according to American Heart Association standards and participants will receive a CPR card. This class will not certify health-care providers or daycare center operators.

A $35 minimum donation to the Creston Fire Department must be received by Nov. 1. Call 250-4655 to reserve your space.

Boots to Business Reboot

The U.S. Small Business Administration is sponsoring Boots to Business Reboot, an entrepreneurship training program for veterans and their spouses, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at the Gateway Community Center, room 26, 1203 U.S. 2 W., in Kalispell.

Boots to Business Reboot is a two-step training program that provides participants an overview of business ownership as a career vocation, an outline and knowledge on the component of a business plan, a practical exercise in opportunity recognition, and an introduction to available public and private sector resources.

Step one is the Introduction to Entrepreneurship course for veterans, National Guard and Reserves service members, and their spouses.

Step two is an eight-week online Foundations of Entrepreneurship by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University.
