Presentation to discuss possible tribal takeover
In an effort to educate more people on the implications of Senate Bill 2012, The North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act, Western States Constitutional Rights LLC is hosting a dinner and presentation to discuss the constitutionality of the bill.
New York attorney Lawrence Kogan and activist Elaine Willman will speak at 7 p.m. tonight at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 37 First Street West in Kalispell.
The bill aims to amend the Energy Conservation and Production Act, the Energy Policy and Conservation Act and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 regarding energy efficiency in buildings and appliances. The bill has passed the Senate and the House, and is currently in the final review process before heading to the White House.
Willman said the bill also included a few free standing Senate and House bills, one of which includes a measure allowing Native American tribes to take over management of national forests with cultural ties to the tribe.
“We have what amounts to 2 percent of America’s population positioned to take over management of the national forests,” Willman said. “It’s a big concern.”
“This is to get information out, to encourage people to reach out to their elected officials immediately,” she said.
The presentation begins at 7 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Admission is $10 and includes dinner. For more information call Willman at 509-949-8055.
