Football: Capital drops Flathead; Polson thumps C-Falls

early touchdowns in the opening quarter helped Helena Capital (4-4) roll past Flathead 30-20 at Vigilante Stadium on Friday evening.

Capital went on to lead 23-0 at the half.

Ryan Skramovsky and Bridger Johnson had touchdown runs of 2 and 16 yards, respectively in the second half for Flathead, and James Flannigan scored on a 17-yard pass from Johnson.

Flathead (3-5) had just 33 yards rushing, but added 284 through the air as Johnson was 14 of 33 passing. He was intercepted three times.

Flathead had 317 yards of total offense to 310 for Capital. Flathead lost two fumbles.

The Braves have just two games left in the regular season — versus Glacier on Oct. 21 and at Missoula Sentinel Oct. 28.

POLSON —Senior quarterback Tanner Wilson passed for three touchdowns, ran 7 yards for another and Cameron Brown returned an interception 34 yards for a score as Polson (6-1 overall, 3-0 league) pulled away for a big Northwestern A victory over Columbia Falls (6-1, 1-1).

Columbia Falls held a 10-6 lead at the half before Polson ripped off 36 points in the second half.

“It was a battle, both teams played really well,” Polson coach Scott Wilson said. “We got some momentum in the third quarter. The interception return was a huge momentum shift for us.”

The victory gave Polson the Northwestern A championship and a first-round bye in the upcoming playoffs.

Wilson was 12 of 23 passing for 310 yards. He was intercepted once.

Matthew Rensvold, who had touchdown receptions of 20 and 60 yards, had 12 catches for 225 yards.

Columbia Falls quarterback Dakota Bridwell was 37 of 61 passing for 439 yards. He was picked off twice.

Polson closes the regular season next Friday with a nonconference game at Havre.

Columbia faces Frenchtown in a league battle.
