People in the News: Ober receives Danielson Award

| October 16, 2016 6:00 AM

The Northwest Montana Posse of Westerners recently announced that Posse member Michael Ober has received the 2015 Philip A. Danielson Award for Best Program from Westerners International.

The Danielson Award is given for the best presentation or program delivered to a corral or posse during the year by a member of Westerners. The award encourages members to do research or otherwise prepare a program and then share their interest and knowledge with fellow Westerners.

Ober’s presentation, “Historic Photos from Glacier Park’s Black and White Days,” was presented to the Posse in July 2015. The program consisted of a sampler of the vintage black and white historic photos from Glacier Park’s first 100 years, images from early photographers that captured key highlights of the park’s earliest years. He explored archived photo collections and categorized them into recreational, promotional and documentation sectors.

Ober, an amateur historian and author, retired from Flathead Valley Community College as director of Library Services and as an instructor. He also had a 44-year seasonal career as a backcountry and road patrol ranger in Glacier National Park. He is presently building a new home in the North Fork.

Ober is the author of “Glacier Album, Historic Photographs of Glacier National Park.”

NMPW’s mission is to encourage and promote interest, research in, and archiving of the history of the American West in general and specifically in Northwest Montana in specific. For further information, contact Ron at 756-8791 or email at ron.nmpw@gmx.com.

Amanda Bevan, daughter of Richard and Bette Brown of West Glacier, has enrolled at the College of Saint Benedict for the 2016-17 academic year.
