It's Flathead vs. Glacier in postseason soccer action
For the second time in five days, Glacier and Flathead will square off in girls soccer action at Glacier High School.
Today’s match, which begins at 3 p.m., is a postseason pairing of bottom seeds with the winner advancing to a state tournament play-in match 1 p.m. on Friday at third seed Helena Capital at Northwest Park. That victor advances to the Class AA state tournament in Kalispell at Kidsports Complex Oct. 28-30.
Glacier is the sixth seed in the Western Division while Flathead checks in at No. 7.
The Bravettes lead the crosstown series with Glacier 11-5-4, but the Wolfpack won both regular-season meetings this fall.
Glacier senior Destiny Dachs tied a school match record with her four goals in a 4-0 victory over Flathead at Glacier last Thursday.
Dachs had scored just twice previously this season.
That was the regular-season finale for Glacier while Flathead closed out its schedule two days later at home with a 6-2 loss to Missoula Sentinel.
The first crosstown meeting for Glacier and Flathead was back Sept. 15 at Legends Stadium. Glacier tallied a school match record six goals in a 6-1 victory over the Bravettes. Cadie Williams scored the first three goals in the span of seven minutes — starting at the five-minute mark — and finished the scoring at 54 minutes. Her four goals set a school record for most goals in a match.
Dachs had a goal in that one along with Erica Braig.
Sara Clarin put Flathead on the scoreboard, which trailed 4-1 at the half.
Later this week on the boys side, fourth-seed Flathead hosts fifth-seed Glacier at 3 p.m. at Kidsports Complex in a state tournament play-in match. That winner moves on to state.
Glacier won the last meeting, also last Thursday at Glacier, 3-1. Rohit Tappeta scored twice for the Wolfpack and Tyler Keller had the other goal to close out its season on a high note.
Flathead’s tally was an own goal.
Flathead had won four straight in the crosstown series.
Then back on Sept. 15 at Legends Stadium, Flathead prevailed 2-1 as Brandon Pyron and Joey Russell scored for the Braves.
Conner Heil netted Glacier’s goal.
Glacier leads the crosstown series 12-6-2.
Flathead ended its schedule with a huge victory on Saturday, upsetting second seed Misoula Sentinel at Kidsports Complex 1-0. Hansen Eystad had the game-winner for the Braves at the 50-minute mark.
