Alan Satterlee named director of North Valley Hospital foundation
Alan Satterlee has been named executive director of the North Valley Hospital Foundation, the fundraising arm of North Valley Hospital.
The nonprofit hospital in Whitefish is an affiliate of Kalispell Regional Healthcare.
Satterlee will be responsible for supporting the mission of the foundation, building community and donor relationships, directing fundraising campaigns and events, directing grant sources and overseeing endowments and planned giving.
“I’m so pleased to join such a respected and forward-thinking organization as North Valley Hospital,” Satterlee said in a press release. “I am excited to work with the NVH Foundation Board of Directors and members of our community who have supported our organization over the years. Their hard work and generosity have resulted in enhanced access to quality healthcare in our local community, such as the creation of the new hospital in 2007 and the expansion of the Birth Center and building of the new North Valley Professional Center in 2015.”
Satterlee previously was the executive director of the Glacier Symphony and Chorale in Kalispell where he served for more than 10 years. During that time he oversaw the administrative and fundraising aspects of the symphony that doubled the revenues, allowing for the creation of Festival Amadeus, a week-long summer music festival held in Whitefish.
“Alan brings a wealth of business, administrative and fundraising skills to the North Valley Hospital Foundation,” said Marcus Duffey, chairman of the North Valley Hospital Foundation, in a press release. “His familiarity with the local community combined with his operational experience in leading large nonprofit organizations, fundraising and organizational/board development will be a great contribution to the foundation and the communities we serve.”
SATTERLEE GREW up in Whitefish and holds a bachelor’s degree in earth sciences from Montana State University. After college he embarked on a 19-year career with Texaco in Denver as a geologist and geophysicist focusing on oil and gas exploration. He then accepted overseas positions in China and Indonesia for six years before transferring to Texaco Headquarters in White Plains, New York. His next assignment was in Myanmar as country manager for three years, then worked as vice president of marketing of gas and power in Houston. Satterlee left Texaco in 1999 to pursue opportunities in the nonprofit sector.
After a summer internship running a YMCA in Clear Lake, Texas, he spent two years as the chief operating officer of SEARCH Homeless Project, the second largest social service agency serving the homeless in Houston. He then joined Hope Ranch in Whitefish as director of development for one year. From 2003 to 2008, Satterlee owned and managed a social service agency called Northwest Passages, which provided transitional living services to young women in recovery. Additionally, he was one of the founders of the Flathead Community Foundation and also served on the Board of Directors of the Whitefish Theatre Co. from 2013-15.
Satterlee is single with two grown children and resides in Whitefish. He spends his free time creating art, hiking, skiing, golfing and volunteering.
NORTH VALLEY Hospital became an affiliate of Kalispell Regional Healthcare on May 1 and continues to operate as a separate acute care hospital. A key point in the affiliation agreement is for North Valley Hospital Foundation and Kalispell Regional Healthcare Foundation to maintain reporting structures to each respective governing board along with their respective focus on philanthropic efforts. All donations to the North Valley Hospital Foundation, both historical and future contributions, will remain under the direction of the North Valley Hospital Foundation Board.
