COMMUNITY BRIEFS: Credit Union Day today

| October 20, 2016 6:00 AM

Whitefish Credit Union is celebrating International Credit Union Day (ICU Day) today and will serve complimentary refreshments during business hours at each of its seven Northwest Montana locations.

Whitefish Credit Union officials are encouraging its 58,000 members to join along with more than 56,000 credit unions and 217 million members around the world in reflecting upon the credit union movement’s history and promoting its achievements. State chartered in 1934, Whitefish Credit Union has gone on to become the largest credit union in Montana with more than $1.3 billion in assets.

Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives guided by nine core people-first principles, including democratic control, social responsibility, and returning all profits to members. This year’s theme is “The Authentic Difference,” a description of credit unions’ cooperative structure and principles.
