VOLLEYBALL: Stillwater Christian 2-0 at state tournament

BOZEMAN — Stillwater Christian School was tested twice, but took care of business on the  court Thursday at the Montana Christian Athletic Association state tournament at Heritage Christian School.

The Cougars (14-8 overall) dropped Yellowstone County Homeschool in a morning match — 13-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-22 — and came back to beat Great Falls Homeschool in an evening matchup — 27-25, 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-7.

“We came into this tournament knowing we were going to start off with some strong competition,” Stillwater coach Diane Smith said.

“Determination is what these girls have. They never gave up.”

Friday, Stillwater faces Foothills Christian at 6 p.m. That winner moves on to the final.

Stillwater entered the tournament as the top seed from the West Division. Foothills Christian is the top seed from the East.

Versus Yellowstone — Stillwater: kills 38 (Dorothy Smith 17), aces 14 (Ramey Metzger 5), assists 32 (Metzger 30), Digs 42 (Metzger 9), blocks 6 (Smith 5)

Versus Great Falls — Stillwater: kills 49 (Helen Hashley 18), aces 14 (Cora Boll 4), assists (Metzger 41). digs 52 (Smith 18), blocks 11 (Hashley 7)
