COMMUNITY BRIEFS: Whitefish Theatre hosts Halloween run

The Whitefish Theatre Company is hosting a Halloween Family Boo Run at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.

The Halloween-themed event includes a 5k run/walk with prizes awarded for best costumes. Post-race, there will be food and fun. Halloween costumes are encouraged for participants but not required.

The race begins and ends at the O’Shaughnessy Center in downtown Whitefish. Pre-register at www.runsignup.com. Type in “Whitefish” in the ‘Find A Race’ search box for registration form. Same day race registration will also be available from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m.

The cost is $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Call 862-5371 for a $50 family pass or for questions.

All funds raised from the fun run will support free theater and music outreach programs for area youth.


ACT chapters host former Homeland Security official

Flathead County and Lake County ACT for America chapters are sponsoring a program featuring former Department of Homeland Security official Philip Haney from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at KwaTaqNuk Resort, 49708 U.S. 93 S., in Polson.

Haney’s book “See Something Say Nothing: Exposing the Government’s Submission to Jihad” will be available and a book signing will follow the presentation.

A founding member of the Department of Homeland Security, Haney has 40 years experience in the strategy and tactics of the global Islamic movement based on Quranic Arabic, with a strong focus on counter terrorism.

He has traveled extensively to more than 20 countries from China to Europe and Central and South America, with particular emphasis in the Middle East.

He gained experience in threat analysis and intelligence while serving as a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer, and conducted numerous interviews of individuals with potential links to terrorism. He is credited with finding 300 individuals with potential links to terrorism at the National Targeting Center.
