COMMUNITY BRIEFS: Voices of Wilderness in Whitefish
Voices of the Wilderness presents an evening of storytelling from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, upstairs at Casey’s in Whitefish.
People who have spent the better part of their lives or careers in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex will share campfire stories from deep in the backcountry about close calls, awe-inspiring landscapes, encounters with bears, lunker fish and pack strings.
Attendees will also enjoy food and drinks, live music and dancing, as well as a silent auction and raffle for such prizes as a pack raft, carbon barrel, five-day wilderness pack trip, art, photography, gift certificates, tools and gear.
Tickets are $15 online at www.bmwf.org/events or at the door.
All proceeds from the event will support wilderness stewardship and conservation work in The Bob through the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation.
FVCC hosts financial aid workshop
Flathead Valley Community College will host a free workshop to help college-bound students and their families complete the necessary forms to apply for federal financial aid, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Sponsored by Reach Higher College Goal Montana, the workshop will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 7 in room 120 of the Broussard Center on the Kalispell campus. Appointments are not required.
“About $150 billion in federal grants, loans and work-study funds is available each year and that doesn’t include the state and institutional aid that is out there,” said Rhonda Safford, Reach Higher College Goal Montana statewide coordinator. “Financial aid professionals in Montana will tell you that the return on the investment of taking half an hour or 45 minutes to complete the FAFSA is worth it.”
The priority FAFSA filing date for Montana schools is Dec. 1, with the exception of the University of Montana and Missoula College, which have a priority filing date of Nov. 15. Students attending out-of-state schools should contact the school directly for priority dates.
For FAFSA tips and reminders, text “FAFSAHelp” to 41411. For more information about this event, contact Cindy Kiefer at 756-3843.
