FOOTBALL: Flathead falls short in OT at Sentinel
MISSOULA — Mitch Roberts ran for a five-yard touchdown in overtime and Missoula Sentinel intercepted Bridger Johnson one play later to seal a 17-10 win for the Spartans against Flathead on Friday night.
The Braves (3-7) finished the season with three straight losses but fought tough against a playoff-bound Sentinel team. Flathead tied the score on a 30-yard Cody Cusker field goal in the fourth quarter and had the ball back with a chance to drive for the win but was stopped on downs on its own 40-yard line in the waning minutes.
Sentinel had a chance to win the game late in regulation but a 27-yard field goal try went wide.
Johnson, Flathead’s senior quarterback, actually caught a touchdown earlier in the game, reeling in a three-yard pass from Cain Roettig in the second quarter that pulled the Braves within 10-7 at halftime.
Conner Crawford ran for a three-yard touchdown in the first quarter and Spencer Peppenger hit a 19-yard field goal for Sentinel later in the period.
The Spartans (6-4) got the ball first in overtime and converted their possession at the 10-yard line into a touchdown. When the Braves had their turn at the 10, Johnson was intercepted and the game was over.
