LETTER: Some thoughts about the bypass

| October 30, 2016 11:00 AM

Celebration of the 93 bypass completion is a salute to patience and foresight. Missing from the list of those who put faith and political capital behind this project are Kalispell Mayor Tom Flynn and U.S. Sen Conrad Burns. One with vision and one with an ultimately unsuccessful re-election campaign who encouraged the bypass funding.

The real miracle is that from plan approval in 1997 until construction commenced 10 years later, the right-of-way corridor was preserved.

Converting the south of U.S. 2 section of the bypass to four lanes and providing safer, smoother access with an interchange at U.S. 93 South will put the finishing touches on the long-awaited project. —Margaret S. Davis, Lakeside
