SOCCER ROUNDUP: C-Falls roughs up Broncs; Polson boys rock Loyola

FRENCHTOWN — Logan Stephens scored a pair of first half goals to lead Columbia Falls to a comfortable 3-1 nonconference soccer victory in a physical Class A match on the road.

Stephens scored in the 18th and 26th minutes to give a boost to the Wildcats (2-0), who had to handle a tough Broncs team.

“Frenchtown gave us about all we could take to be honest,” Wildcats coach O’Brien Byrd said. “It was good for the guys to get the experience of having to play in a really physical match. I feel like we learned a lot today.”

Jon Sigurdsson, who assisted on the first goal of the game, netted a goal shortly after halftime to give Columbia Falls a 3-0 lead.

Frenchtown added a goal from William Kelly in the 59th minute, but couldn’t get through the Wildcats defense to rally any closer.

Brandon Karberg made eight saves for Columbia Falls and the Wildcats outshot Frenchtown 15-8.

SANDPOINT, Idaho — Julian Nizzoli and Cole Baillie scored two goals each and Sandpoint routed Stillwater Christian.

“Our guys worked hard,” Stillwater coach Ryan O’Rourke said. “We’re still a pretty good team and it’s a good experienced for us to go out there and play against a really solid team.”

The Cougars did not record a shot on goal in the loss.

FRENCHTOWN — Columbia Falls dominated action on the field in rolling past Frenchtown in a Class A matchup.

Columbia Falls (2-0) led 3-0 at the half on goals by Josie Windhauer, Hannah Gedlaman and Madison Snyder.

Kaylee Ashe scored twice in the second half.

“It was good to get the win,” Columbia Falls coach Greg Trenerry said.

“Again, we still have injuries, but some new players stepped up and played hard for us. We got it done.”

Columbia Falls hosts Bigfork on Saturday at 11 a.m.
