VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Columbia Falls keeps rolling

HAMILTON — Defending Class A state champion Columbia Falls earned a hard-fought win in Corvallis to begin the day, then swept Hamilton later on to snare a pair of nonconference victories Saturday.

The Wildkats (3-0) beat the Blue Devils 25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-9 in a rematch of last year’s state title match.

Columbia Falls rolled Hamilton 25-20, 25-14, 25-21.

Morgan Stenger had 12 kills and two blocks in the win over the Broncs. Individual statistics were not available for the match against Corvallis.

CORVALLIS — Whitefish used 44 kills to beat Hamilton in its first of two nonconference matches before being swept by Corvallis to end the day.

The Bulldogs (1-1) downed Hamilton 25-22, 25-12, 20-25, 25-14 in the early afternoon before boarding the bus for Corvallis in the evening. The Blue Devils beat Whitefish 25-22, 25-11, 25-16.

Cailyn Ross led the Bulldogs in kills and blocks in the win over the Broncs. Nina Thew paced Whitefish in kills against Corvallis.

ST. IGNATIUS — Eureka breezed to a pair of wins against host St. Ignatius and Deer Lodge at the Mission Quad in nonconference play.

The Lions (2-0) swept St. Ignatius 25-19, 25-16, 26-24 and handled of Deer Lodge 25-18, 25-12, 25-17.

Troy (1-1) also beat the host Bulldogs 25-21, 25-20, 25-23 before being upended by the Wardens 25-19, 25-19, 25-10.

Kassi Peterson led Eureka in kills in both matches, totaling 26 on the day. Alyssa Lewis led the Trojans with eight kills in their win over St. Ignatius.
