GOLF: Glacier's Tinseth leads in Helena; Polson, Whitefish win in C-Falls

HELENA — McKenna Tinseth of Glacier is tied for the lead with Sydnee Nowlen of Missoula Sentinel and Emily Garden of Missoula Hellgate at the Capital City Golf Invitational on at Bill Roberts Golf Course on Thursday.

Tinseth, Nowlen and Garden all carded 89s.

Two girls are three shots behind the leaders.

Maddie Huestis of Flathead, 94, is seventh.

The Glacier girls are fourth in the team standings with a 422 mark while Flathead is six shots back and in fifth place.

Helena High’s girls are first with a 387 score.

Helena Capital is second and one-point behind.

In boys play, Rielly Manger of Flathead is tied for ninth place with an 83.

Glacier did not have a player in the top 10.

Missoula Sentinel, 318, leads on the team front. Flathead, 352, is fourth and Glacier, 355, sixth.

Talon Buirchard of Helena High shot a 74 to top the leader board. He leads by three shots.

Play continues Friday at Green Meadow Country Club.

Columbia Falls Invitational

COLUMBIA FALLS — Polson’s Carson McDaniel and Whitefish’s Brendan Buls shot dueling 83s to tie for medalist honors while the Whitefish girls won their fourth straight tournament on Thursday at the Columbia Falls Invitational at Meadow Lake Golf Club.

McDaniel’s 11-over-par score helped the Pirates to the boys team title.

Polson (343) bested Columbia Falls (376) and Whitefish (386) by placing five golfers in the top 10. Noah McDonald tied for third at 86, Matt Hobbs and Colin Kenney tied for fifth at 87 and Trey Kelley shot a 90 to finish eighth.

Logan Peck was Columbia Falls’ top finisher in third place with an 86.

The Whitefish girls, meanwhile, continued a terrific start to the season by easily besting Polson 401-498.

The Bulldogs, defending Class A state champions, have won the Northwest A Kickoff tournament, Missoula Invitational and now back-to-back Columbia Falls invites.

Holly Hileman posted the top girls score with a 90, 12 shots ahead of her twin sister, Hayley, and Polson’s Kiyara McCue.
