Ag burn sends up plume of smoke
A controlled agricultural burn of a stubble field near West Reserve Drive and Springcreek Road in Kalispell sent a plume of smoke into the air Saturday afternoon. While some agricultural burns may be permitted this time of year, open burning will not begin until Oct. 1.
Columbia Falls Police received a report of an elderly veteran possibly being financially defrauded by a family member.
Dispatchers advised a woman that her call was inappropriate after she dialed 911 to report that she wanted someone with a ladder to come and help her reach a light in her kitchen that needed cleaning.
Officers investigated a report of a shotgun that was stolen.
Whitefish Police took a report of a fawn stuck in a fence on Oregon Avenue. The deer got itself free before an officer arrived.
An officer counseled a man that a number of people complained about for a second day in a row. The man allegedly was screaming and making a scene on East Second Street, with a sign in tow that said “Prepare to meet God.”
A bartender reported that two people on Central Avenue were too drunk to be in public and had torn the bartender’s shirt while being aggressive.
Kalispell Police fielded a call from an angry man who was not happy that keys had allegedly been left in his car after his son was arrested. The man believed his car had been stolen as a result.
No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at the corner of West Idaho Street and Third Avenue West North, however, the vehicles involved had to be towed.
An officer made sure a husband and wife were separated on Carnegie Drive after the wife asked that he be removed from the home. The man said he had not yelled at the woman, but that he was upset about bills and other issues.
A man called from Empire Loop to report that it was not an emergency but that he needed to report a “dead person walking.” The man then allegedly said “that’s all, thank you,” and hung up. Dispatchers called back multiple times and got the name of the “dead person walking.” An officer contacted the woman who asked for extra patrol because the man had allegedly been harassing her. Later that day someone found a note saying that if the note had been found then the woman was dead. The woman was instructed to come down to the station to handle the matter.
A hose from a paving truck caught on fire on East Idaho Street. It was quickly extinguished.
An officer escorted a woman home after she was fired from a business on Hutton Ranch Road. The woman allegedly appeared dazed and her boss thought she might have showed up under the influence. The officer found that the woman was dazed, but upset about having lost her job.
Checks were stolen from a mailbox on Windriver Drive.
An officer told a woman she should block a man on Facebook after he allegedly sent her vague, threatening messages, telling her to “watch her back.” The pair had once been roommates, but the man was now a transient.
An officer gave a very drunk man a ride to Evergreen after he reported being punched by another man.
One man was transported to the hospital after a van and a truck collided on Fifth Avenue West North and landed in someone’s yard. The truck was full of four people and flipped on its top. A man in the van lost consciousness.
