Logan Pass may reopen Tuesday
A Sunday snowstorm temporarily closed Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road over Logan Pass on Monday. Officials expected it could reopen sometime Tuesday.
The road closure extends from Big Bend to Jackson Glacier Overlook.
Vehicles can drive the scenic road for 28 miles from the West Glacier entrance until reaching the closure. Sun Road’s east side is open for 13.5 miles from the St. Mary entrance.
The park closed the alpine section of roadway Sunday afternoon, and about an inch and a half of snow and ice had accumulated on the road surface by the following morning. Temperatures remained below freezing at the pass throughout Monday.
Glacier spokesman Tim Rains said Monday afternoon the road likely wouldn’t open until Tuesday due to icy conditions.
No further precipitation is expected this week. Temperatures in West Glacier are forecast to return to the mid-60s today, followed by low-70s for the rest of the week.
