LETTER: Democratic talking points from GOP politician?
It was with great sadness that I read the Bob Brown opinion piece in the newspaper. This was a man that I had voted for over the years, and now I believe that he has identified himself as one of the “elitist members of the Republican Party.”
This is the group of people who believe they know better than us common people what is best for the country and the party. Why did I support you when your commitment to the members of the Republican party is so shallow? Shame on me.
I think back to Dwight D. Eisenhower writing how in 1951, he had a delegation of the Democratic Party (elitist) visit him to ask him to be the Democratic candidate for the presidency. He also had a delegation from the Republican Party (elitist) with the request that he be the Republican candidate. He chose the Republican Party as he believed the Democrats had been in control of the White House long enough, and the nation needed a change.
Ronald Reagan was an acknowledged Democrat before changing to the Republican Party. He had the 11th commandment: “Speak no evil of another Republican.” (Do you remember that, Bob?)
The elite party bosses of the Democratic Party anointed Hillary before they started the sham primary election process. The Democratic Party members, like good sheep, followed the bosses’ directions.
The elite party bosses of the Republican Party had a primary, and are now disappointed because the party members DID NOT follow their direction. Can the party members really think for themselves?
We are not as gullible as you elitists believe.
Bob, you mention NATO. Trump has raised the question of why we are still paying the majority of the NATO budget, a percentage that was established back in the 1950s when Europe was still recovering from the war. The NATO nations should be willing to relook at how, and why, the budget is presently being handled. That is all that Trump has asked us to consider.
Bob, you mention Trump’s tax returns. Do you not believe that if there were anything wrong with the Trump tax returns, the Democratic IRS would not have leaked it to the press? Just because others have released their returns does not mean that Trump should do the same. He, as a concerned American, can make that decision for himself. He is, in my estimation, showing some character in not following the herd.
Bob, you mention bankruptcies. The man has a $10 billion empire. Can you identiy any other companies of that size that have experienced the good fortune of not having bankruptcies in their background? I think not.
Bob, you mention the Supreme Court. With Republicans like you, there will most likely be a demise of the Republican Party and therefore there will not be any check/balances on the Democratic appointees.
Bob, Trump did not “hijack” the Republican Party. He just showed the people that they could have a say in the direction of the party, and did not have to be “good sheep” and do what the party elities told us to do. He has done more to reenergize the party this year than all of the elites in the last eight years.
I believe, with Trump, the Republican Party has a chance to become a force again, and not continue the path to oblivion that the party elites have set over the past eight years.
Bob, in summary, your opinion letter sounded like it was taken from a Democratic talking-points memo. Shame on you.
