Forest project approved in Swan Valley
The Swan Lake Ranger District of Flathead National Forest on Monday released its decision notice for the Cold Jim Fuels Reduction and Forest Health Project.
The forest has approved the Cold Jim fuels reduction project approximately 3 miles northwest of Condon.
The project area is in the Cold Creek and Jim Creek watersheds in Lake and Missoula counties.
The alternative selected by the Forest Service includes approximately 740 acres of commercial harvest, 366 acres of pre-commercial thinning, 49 acres of inter-planting and three resource enhancement projects. Other activities include construction of 3.1 miles of temporary road, decommissioning of 1.9 miles of road and restoration of about 50 acres of drained wetlands.
