VOLLEYBALL: Glacier sweeps Hellgate; Flathead nipped by Big Sky

MISSOULA — Abi Fiske smashed nine kills and added six blocks to lead Glacier to a three-game sweep of Missoula Hellgate in Western AA conference action on Tuesday night.

The Wolfpack (7-5, 2-1 Western AA) was dominant in the win, rolling 25-16, 25-14, 25-18 over the Knights. Glacier entered the match ranked fifth in Class AA in the most recent coaches poll.

Glacier had 38 kills to just 25 for Hellgate and was aided by nine service aces.

Ashley Montini topped the Pack in assists with 15 and Brietta Russell notched 18 digs.

Liza Littig recorded a match-high 10 kills for Hellgate (4-6, 1-2).

Glacier returns home Thursday to face off with Missoula Big Sky at 7 p.m.

Big Sky 3, Flathead 2

MISSOULA — Flathead rallied from a quick first-set loss to take a 2-1 lead on Big Sky before falling in five sets to the Eagles in a Western AA conference match.

The Bravettes lost the first set 25-13 but overpowered Big Sky in the next two games, winning 25-23 and 25-16. The Eagles regained control in the fourth with a decisive 25-16 victory, then took the fifth 15-8 for the victory.

Allie Gagnon and Madde Boles each had 10 kills for Flathead in the loss. Tiana Johnson had four of her team’s seven blocks to go with nine digs. Julia Burden had a team-high two aces and setter Sierra Wilhelm had all 32 assists.

Kelsi McEnaney led Big Sky with 14 kills and nine digs and Jada Ogilve had 12 digs and four aces.
