The Glacier boys soccer team scored four second-half goals to upset previously unbeaten Missoula Hellgate 5-4 at home in a Western AA conference match on Thursday.

Tyler Keller, playing in his first start, scored the game winner on an assist from Dyllyn Stabler to cap a huge comeback, and the biggest win of the season for the Wolfpack (2-4-1).

“It epitomized the game,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said. “It was great defensive work, a tackle by Micah Reason. We calmly played into the middle and Tyler Keller had a brilliant touch forward, finished with poise. Today was epic for us.”

Glacier started the game strong, scoring first on a goal from Mathew Martini. Hellgate (5-1-1) roared back with three goals to close the half, but the Wolfpack answered after halftime, retaking the lead with goals from Reason, Martini and Rohit Tappeta.

Will Dauenhauer scored his second goal of the game on a free kick in the 70th minute to tie the contest before Keller won the game five minutes later.

Glacier is back on the field next Thursday against Missoula Big Sky.

Flathead (3-3-1) recorded its first shutout of the season while piling up more goals in a single game than it had in nearly eight years, topping Missoula Big Sky (0-7-0) in a Western AA conference win at Kidsports Complex.

Jordan Buxton started the Braves off fast with a goal in the first minute, and Flathead scored three times in three minutes in the second half, carding goals from Gage Magone, Hansen Eystad and Cameron DeNeeve. The four goals are the most in a game for the Braves since Flathead beat Big Sky 7-1 in 2008.

“We had six guys involved in the four different goals,” Flathead coach Nate Evans said. “It’s a huge accomplishment by them. The guys are playing really good team soccer right now.”

COLUMBIA FALLS — Columbia Falls dazzled in its first game under the newly-installed lights at Flip Darling Field, blanking Stillwater Christian in a nonconference match.

Jon Sigurdsson scored two goals and assisted on a third for the Wildcats, who exploded for three goals in the final four minutes to pull away from a tough Stillwater side.

“That has to be one of our biggest regular season crowds in the history of the program, it really added to the atmosphere,” Columbia Falls coach O’Brien Byrd said.

“Stillwater gave us an unbeliveable fight. It was 1-0 with less than five minutes left in the match. They gave us just what we wanted. We had to earn it.

“It’s gonna be a great experience for these guys to look back on down the road. Things weren’t going our way and we stuck with the game plan.”

Logan Stephens and Skylar Chute also scored for Columbia Falls. Stillwater goalkeeper Nicholas Sulzbacher made 11 saves in the loss.
