FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Eureka, Bigfork collect District 7B wins

LIBBY — Cannan Smith had touchdown runs of 4, 2 and 38 yards and Jacob Nowakowski returned a kickoff 82 yards for another score as Eureka blew by Libby 67-6 in a District 7B football contest on Friday night.

Eureka (4-1 overall, 1-0 league) rolled up 34 points in the opening quarter. The Lions led the Loggers 47-6 at the half.

Eureka had 507 yards in total offense to 115 for Libby.

Smith finished with 116 yards rushing on 11 carries.

Eureka quarterback Garrett Graves ran for a touchdown and also passed for one. He was 8 of 15 passing for 159 yards.

Austyn Sherwood had 3 receptions for 74 yards and James Dunn had three catches for 49 yards.

Defensively for Eureka, cornerback Bryant Little had 4 1/2 tackles and an interception. Linebacker James Dunn had 4 1/2 tackles.

Libby (0-5, 0-1) scored in the opening quarter on an 18-yard run by Laine Young.

Bigfork 35, Thompson Falls 20

BIGFORK — A big second half carried Bigfork (5-0, 2-0) to a District 7B homecoming victory over Thompson Falls (1-4, 0-1).

Tied 14-all after two quarters, Bigfork pulled away on touchdown runs of 3 and 30 yards by Matt Farrier and a 29-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Augie Emslie to Anders Epperly.

Farrier had a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and Logan Taylor caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Emslie in the second quarter.

McKenzie Holt scored twice for Thompson Falls on runs of 10 and 23 yards.

Bigfork netted 396 yards in total offense to 326 for Thompson Falls.

Emslie was 10 of 18 passing for 150 yards and two touchdowns.

Farrier rushed for 132 yards on 24 attempts, avergaing 5.5 yards per touch. Randy Stultz was next with 119 yards on 12 carries.

Epperly caught six passes for 95 yards. Farrier had three receptions for 37 yards.

Bigfork has a nonconference home outing with Malta/Whitewater/Saco next Friday.

WHITEFISH — Whitefish (2-3) came up short with the game winding down, dropping a Class A homecoming nonconference contest to Corvallis (2-3) at Memorial Field.

Whitefish had the ball on the Corvallis 5-yard line with 1:52 to play, but failed to convert on a fourth-down play.

No other details were available.

Whitefish has a Northwestern A outing at Polson next Friday.

Polson 33, Frenchtown 0

FRENCHTOWN — Polson quarterback Tanner Wilson figured in all of the scoring as the Pirates whipped Frenchtown in a Northwestern A Conference contest.

Wilson had scoring runs of 1, 4, 9 and 48 yards.

He hit Matthew Rensvold on a 36-yard touchdown pass.

Polson (3-1, 1-0), up 13-0 at the half on Frenchtown (1-4, 0-1), scored in every quarter.

Polson hosts Whitefish in Northwestern A play next Friday. It’s homecoming weekend for the Pirates.
