Libby edges Eureka in 7B volleyball play

EUREKA — It was a battle, but Libby managed to emerge with a hard-fought 25-18, 16-25, 25-18, 27-25 District 7B volleyball victory over Lincoln County rival Eureka on Saturday.

Eureka (5-4 overall, 0-2 league) had 44 kills, led by Kassi Peterson with 17 and Kaylee Kronsperger with 12, to 43 for Libby (8-1, 3-0), led by Brooklyn Rainer and Mehki Sykes with 12 each.

Rainer had six of Libby’s 10 blocks and Peterson had three of Eureka’s six.

“They were all close games,” Eureka coach Charli Chapman said.

“I’m proud of my girls. They battled point for point all night.

“They’re big (taller),” Chapman said of the Loggers.

“We played big against them. We didn’t let their size get to us. Our serve receive and passing was phenomenal, but they got us in the end.”

BIGFORK – Thompson Falls prevailed in a back and forth District 7B match with Bigfork, winning 25-18, 21-25, 26-24, 14-25, 15-11.

Abby Ellison had 21 of Bigfork’s 45 kills and three of the team’s seven blocks.

She also had a team-best two aces and 10 digs.

HELENA — Stillwater Christian School (9-4, 4-0) defeated Helena Christian School 25-23, 25-18, 25-9 in a Montana Christian Athletic Association Western Division matchup and beat Salvation Army Fire 25-18, 25-17, 25-27, 25-19 in a nonconference contest.

“Outstanding level of play by seniors Adrianna Lambert, Dorothy Smith and Sarah Dutton,” Stillwater coach Diane Smith said.

“Setter Ramey Metzger continues to run a simple, but wise offense to pull off the wins.”

POLSON — Polson settled for a split in Class A nonconference outings with Hamilton and Dillon.

Hamilton upended Polson, 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 25-9 in an early afternoon outing. The Pirates, however, battled back to stop Dillon, 17-25, 25-20, 11-25, 25-20, 17-15 in an early evening matchup.

Haley Fyant had a big day at the net for Polson with 13 kills against Hamilton and 20 versus Dillon.

Hannah Fryberger had eight of Polson’s 20 aces in the Dillon match.
