VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Blue Hawks edge Libby; Stillwater beats Flathead JV

LIBBY — Libby fought back from a set down twice, but couldn’t hold the momentum in a five-set District 7B volleyball loss to Thompson Falls.

Mehki Sykes had a team-high 16 kills and two blocks to lead the Loggers (3-1 District 7B, 8-2 overall), who fell 25-17 in the first set and 25-20 in the third set, rallying for 25-22 wins in the second and fourth sets. Thompson Falls pulled away in the fifth to win 15-11.

“It was a battle,” Libby coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston said. “They played with more confidence and played more aggressively than we did. That made the difference.”

Jayden Winslow had 20 digs, Haylee Cannon four aces and Alli Collins 33 assists for Libby in the loss.

Ember Schwindt led Thompson Falls with 20 kills and three blocks.

Stillwater Christian 3, Flathead JV 0

Stillwater Christian held off the Flathead JV in a close first set before finding its rhythm in a nonconference sweep.

The Cougars (10-4) edged Flathead in the first set 26-24, then picked up the pace in the rest of the match, winning 25-15 in the second and 25-20 in the third.

Dorothy Smith had seven kills and four digs for Stillwater and Adrianna Lambert had seven kills and seven aces. The Cougars picked up 21 aces in the win.
