Richard 'Dick' Lundstrom, 70

| September 28, 2016 6:00 AM

Richard “Dick” Lundstrom, 70, of Columbia Falls, passed away Sept. 20, 2016, at the Montana Veterans Home.

He was born Dec. 9, 1945, in Malta to Frank and Evelyn (Snider) Lundstrom.

As a young child they moved to Columbia Falls where he was raised and graduated from Columbia Falls High School with the Class of 1964.

He married Sandra Beck in 1970. Dick served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era, from 1964 to 1968. Dick also worked at Plum Creek Lumber Company for 36 years. After retiring, volunteering became a full-time job. He loved to read with the students at Ruder Elementary, deliver Meals on Wheels, was president of the Senior Center, volunteered with Columbia Falls Food Pantry and Agency on Aging, and also worked at the Glacier Clean Car Wash.

Dick’s greatest passion was his children, grandchildren and family. Baseball was a lifelong love, from coaching his own son and grandsons as youngsters to most recently the men’s over 50 Seahawk softball team. He was involved in baseball in many ways —umpire, coach, groundskeeper, board member and biggest all-around fan. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, chatting with everyone and going to the Griz games. He had a deep appreciation for his Columbia Falls community.

Dick is survived by his wife, Sandy, of 46 years; daughter, Stephanie (Karl), and son Chad (Alana); and four beautiful grandchildren, Tristan, Jakob, Cody and Alivia. Dick is also survived by his five siblings, Judy Schroeder, Frank Lundstrom, Lois Pfeiffer, Leah Kvamme and Lori Lundstrom.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant daughter Kimberley.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Fellowship Alliance Church in Columbia Falls. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery with military honors. There will be a reception at the church gym following the burial.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, a memorial account has been established to give to the many organizations he served and loved. The account is at the Whitefish Credit Union; please reference Stephanie Grein or Chad Lundstrom for the Dick Lundstrom Memorial Fund.

Columbia Mortuary is caring for Dick’s family.
