FRENCHTOWN — Flathead floundered against Class A powerhouse Frenchtown on Thursday, falling to the Broncs 10-0 on the road.

The Bravettes (0-1) managed just one hit in the loss, struggling to find consistent contact against Frenchtown pitcher Brynn Leishman.

Caitlin Morrison picked up the lone knock, a single, for Flathead.

Frenchtown, winners of the last four Class A state championships, took control of the contest early on, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning, then two more runs in both the second and third innings to take a 6-0 lead.

Flathead held the Broncs scoreless in the fourth inning but couldn’t do the same in the fifth, allowing four runs as Frenchtown ended the game early.

Leishman had a game-high two hits and two RBIs for Frenchtown and Allie Hochalter was 2 for 2 from the plate with a double and a triple. Frenchtown had nine hits by seven different players.

“We didn’t play badly,” Flathead coach Jack Foster said.

“The defense played pretty well, made some good plays. Offensively, we have to get better swinging the bats. It’s a process and we’re getting there. The kids are working hard. We’re getting better, that’s the goal.”

Flathead gets another tough task this weekend in its next trip to the diamond, facing defending Class AA state champion Great Falls C.M. Russell and its crosstown counterpart, state semifinalists Great Falls High, in a doubleheader on Saturday.
