Flathead boys win Missoula Invitational track

MISSOULA — The Flathead and Glacier boys took the top two spots at the Missoula County Public Schools Invitational on Saturday at Dornblaser Field on the campus of the University of Montana.

The Braves won the meet with ease, clearing the field by 25 points while winning five individual events.

Flathead’s Andy Thomas was one of two athletes to win more than one event at the meet, taking the triple jump with a distance of 43 feet, 7 1/4 inches, the best mark in Class AA this season, and winning the high jump by clearing 6-5.

Bobby Lowry won the long jump with a leap of 20-9 to complete a Braves sweep of the jumps. Jaden Anderson won the 800 in 1 minute, 59.01 seconds and Dawson Rinehart won the 300 hurdles in 41.98 seconds while Chad Hemsley took second. Hemsley was also second in the 110 hurdles.

Glacier’s speed showed off at the meet, with Ethan Larson winning the 100 and Tyler Combs winning the 400. The Wolfpack swept the relays.

Columbia Falls’ Logan Kolodejchuk won the shot put with a toss of 48-7 to help the Wildcats to a fifth place team finish. Polson was 10th and Whitefish 12th.

The Glacier girls finished third at the meet with more impressive performances from their top athletes in the track and field.

Wolfpack junior Annie Hill won both the 800 and 1,600, besting her state-best mark in the 800 by more than four seconds. Senior Nikki Krueger won the shot put with a toss of 37-8 1/2.

Flathead finished sixth as a team and taking two events. Madde Boles won the long jump with a leap of 16-5 and Megan Rieke the pole vault by clearing 8-6.

Missoula Sentinel won five indivudal events and ran away with the team title.

Whitefish finished ninth, Columbia Falls 11th and Polson 13th.
