Class C stars duel at Top 8 Meet

EUREKA — There was a showdown between two of the best athletes in Class C on Tuesday at the Top Eight meet.

Victor’s Jack Powell edged Hot Springs’ Trevor Paro to win the 100-meter dash then went on to win the 110 and 300 hurdles.

Paro turned around and won the 200, long jump and triple jump.

Those performances were just a few of the impressive marks put up at the meet.

Eureka’s Cannan Smith won the pole vault and javelin and was edged by Powell by one-hundredth of a second in the 110 hurdles.

On the girls side of the meet, Libby’s Lauren Thorstenson won both the 1,600 and 3,200 and teammate Emma Gruber won both the 100 and 300 hurdles.

St. Ignatius’ Afton Brander won the high jump and triple jump as the only other double champ.
