LaVaughn Deloris (Meyer) Bernau, 85

LaVaughn Deloris (Meyer) Bernau passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at the Heritage Place in Kalispell, at the age of 85.

LaVaughn was born in Chadron, Nebraska, on Sept. 14, 1931, to Caroline (Knutzen) and Roy I. Meyer. She finished high school in Chadron before moving with family to a farm on the southeast end of Echo Lake north of Bigfork.

She married Roy G. Bernau in Las Vegas in the spring of 1952. The pair raised their three children in the Flathead Valley. LaVaughn worked for the local school system in the kitchen at Flathead High School and then at rural Fair-Mont-Egan school doing janitorial work until her retirement in 1991. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting and she was a word search master. The rest of her time was spent enjoying her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy in 1987, brother Fred Meyer in 2005, daughter Renee Olmstead in 2015, grandson Jeremy Bernau in 1977, and granddaughter Bobbie Jo Bernau in March of 2017.

She is survived by her son Allen and wife Linda Bernau, daughter Donna and husband Ernie Freebury, along with five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, some residing in the Flathead area and some in Idaho Falls, Idaho; also, numerous relatives and her many friends.

A viewing will be held at between 3 and 5 p.m. on Aug. 7 at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home in Kalispell. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 8 at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Pierce officiating. Burial at Glacier Memorial Gardens will follow the service.
