Historic Film Club to screen 'Dave'
The Historic Film Club will screen political comedy “Dave” at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at the Museum at Central School in Kalispell.
If you had a job impersonating the president, what would you do? That’s the question facing Dave (Kevin Kline) when he is asked to secretly step in for the ailing Commander in Chief. And as he tries to make things better, he finds himself locked in a power struggle between his staff and VP. Complicating the matter further is his growing affection for the fist lady (Sigourney Weaver).
This ensemble cast also stars Frank Langella, Ben Kingsley and Ving Rhames.
This 1993 film was both a critical and commercial success when it was first released, with Gary Ross’ screenplay even earning an Academy Award nomination. In these turbulent and uncertain times, “Dave” serves as a reminder of the good that can be accomplished through the political system.
As the great Roger Ebert summarized, “The movie is more proof that it isn’t what you do, it’s how you do it.”
There is no charge for admission, but donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of acquiring and showing the films. The movie and popcorn are free; wine, beer, pop and water will be for sale. Seating is provided, but film fans can bring their own floor pillows, portable chairs or whatever is comfortable for viewing the film.
The Museum at Central School is located at 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell. For more information, call 406-756-8381.
