Libby sweeps openers

LIBBY — Ryggs Johnston scored 24 points and the Libby Loggers rolled to a 70-56 victory in its season opener against Thompson Falls on Saturday.

Johnston was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line, scoring 12 points in the second half to help the Loggers pull away. JJ Davis scored 17 points for Libby.

Stats for Thompson Falls weren’t available.

Polson 57, Stevensville 53

STEVENSVILLE — Polson outscored Stevensville down the stretch to notch a win in the season opener.

Shade Main scored 18 points and Robin Erickson scored 10 as the Pirates outscored Stevi 17-13 in the fourth quarter to pull away after a back-and-forth first half.

Logan Roth scored 26 points to lead the Yellowjackets.

EUREKA — Deer Lodge got on top early and pulled away from Eureka in a rout.

Dyllon McDermid scored 22 points and Ben Anderson scored 21 points for the Wardens.

AJ Pacella scored 16 points and Jake Kindel had 10 to lead the Lions.

LIBBY — Shannon Reny had 13 points as the Loggers defense locked down Thompson Falls to start the season with a win.

Libby took a 14-point first quarter lead after holding the Blue Hawks to just four points in the first eight minutes. The Loggers defense allowed just one point in the third quarter as they pulled away.

Seven Libby players recorded points in the win.

Megan Baxter led Thompson Falls with six points.
