Wrestling Flathead humbles Hellgate; Libby tips Bonners Ferry

MISSOULA — Flathead tuned up for this weekend’s Mining City Duals in Butte by humbling Missoula Hellgate 71-3 in a Western AA Conference wrestling dual on Thursday evening at Missoula Hellgate.

“The team went out to score and stayed on the offensive,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said of his team’s dominating performance. “We stuck to our game plan.”

The match started at 138 with Hellgate pulling out a 3-1 decision. Flathead, however, won the next 12.

“Kenyon Fretwell had the throw of the night — a beautiful hip toss,” Thompson said.

Flathead’s AJ Ekanger, wrestling at 132, picked up his first varsity win.

Wrestling in Butte begins today at 10 a.m. and continues through Saturday.

MISSOULA — Glacier picked up points in five weight classes in a Western AA Conference dual loss to Missoula Big Sky/Loyola.

Cody Frost, 103, and Tre Krause, 285, both won by forfeit for Glacier.

Tristan Little, 120, and James Roberts, 205, both won by pins for the Wolfpack while Wesley Palmer, 182, posted a decision.

Glacier heads for Butte and the Mining City Duals today and Saturday.
