Raymond 'Ray' Nicklaus, 86

Raymond “Ray” “Gramps” Nicklaus, 86, “rode off into the sunset on his favorite horse” on Nov. 26, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Ray was born in Elgin, North Dakota, on Oct. 18, 1931.

Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he cherished his family dearly.

Ray proudly served his country in the Korean War.

On Aug. 25, 1954, Ray married Janette Karlin. Together they had six children, Don (Cathy) Nicklaus, Joan (Robin) McElrath, Betty (Donny) Whilhelm, Cheryl (Carl) Nelson, Karen (Leonard) Wilkey and Randy Nicklaus. As a result, Ray had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Ray worked at the Columbia Falls Aluminum Company plant for 32 years.

Ray and Janette resided in the Flathead Valley until 2003 when they moved to Valier.

Ray is survived by his wife Janette, and their children, and his sisters Irene Eggers, Deloris (Leo) Schnider, Arlene Arnth, and Violet (Neil) Monson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Ray is being cremated. Services will be determined at a later date.
