Glacier to induct 15 student-athletes to Wall of Fame

Glacier High School’s 10th Wall of Fame Class will be inducted today between the boys and girls basketball games versus Bozeman at Glacier High School.

The boys tip off play at 4:30 p.m. with the girls on the court at 6.

The Wall of Fame Class for 2017 features 15 student-athletes. To qualify, a student-athlete must display excellence in at least one activity — be a first-team all-state selection, an individual state champion, receive 12 activity letters, garner All-Northwest honors in music, or earn the Founders Degree in theatre — to be considered. In addition, individuals must excel in at least two of the

following areas: academic all-state (3.5 grade point average or above), established leadership roles in student council or a variety of clubs, a member of a state championship team, or letter in multiple activities.

The 2017 inductees are:

Brynn McChesney — excelled in track and basketball and earned seven letters for the Wolfpack. She was a long jump state champion and was involved in Wolfpack Club, National Honor Society and DECA. McChesney graduated with a 4.0 GPA and is currently studying nursing at Montana State.

Patrick O’Connell — a first-team all-state selection linebacker and fullback for the Wolfpack and was named the Western Conference defensive player of the year. He played in both the MonDak and Shrine football games. O’Connell was a key figure in Glacier winning its first state basketball title last March. He started for the Kalispell Lakers American Legion baseball program for three seasons. He was a member of the Wolfpack leadership club. O’Connell is currently playing football and baseball at the University of Mary.

Erin McHugh — a first-team all-state standout in softball last spring and w0as a member of the 2015 state championship squad. She was highly involved in DECA, National Honor Society and Wolfpack Club all while earning perfect grades at Glacier. She is currently attending Montana State.

Scout Willcut — was a state champion as a member of the 2015 and 2016 400-meter relay teams for the Wolfpack. During his senior year, Willcut was fourth in the 400 and second in the 200 at state. He earned seven letters in both track and football. He is currently attending Montana State and is studying construction engineering.

Kellen Bemis — excelled in football, receiving first-team all-state honors his senior season. He played in the MonDak and Shrine football games. Bemis earned superior ratings in band along with receiving seven letters in football, wrestling and track. He is currently attending University of Montana at Western, studying secondary education.

Aleesha Hillis — a state champion in Memorized Public Address her senior season. She was also fourth in Dramatic Interp and was a national qualifier in speech. Hillis is currently attending University of Montana at Western.

Sam Barber — was a first-team all-state safety on the football team his senior season and a second-team all-state selection his junior year. He was involved in National Honor Society and lettered eight times in football, wrestling and track. Barber is attending Montana State University

Nikki Krueger — was the 2017 Alpha Female Award winner for the outstanding female student-athlete at Glacier High. She was first-team all-state in basketball and played in the Montana-Wyoming All-Star game. In volleyball, she earned second-team all-state mention. Krueger was a two-time state champion in track, winning the discus her junior year and the shot put during her senior campaign. She received 12 letters in volleyball, basketball and track during her athletic career at GHS. She was involved in the Wolfpack Club and National Honor Society. Krueger is currently attending Carroll College, competing in basketball and track.

Jaxen Hashley — a two-sport star at Glacier, earning first-team all-state honors in football and basketball during his senior season. He was invited to the MonDak and Shrine football games as well as the Montana-Wyoming All-Star Game in basketball. Hashley was the MVP of the state basketball tournament as the Wolpfack brought home its first state basketball championship. He received first-team all-state recognition in basketball during his junior campaign, earned a total of seven letters and was the Alpha Award winner, which is given to the outstanding male student-athlete. He is currently attending Montana State and playing football for the Bobcats while studying Health Enhancement.

Natalie Krueger — a state champion in Informative Speaking for the Speech Team last winter and a two-time state champion in DECA. She was involved in National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Student Council. She attends MSU-Billings.

Jack Desmul — earned All-Northwest recognition in choir in 2016. He was all-state in choir and received superior ratings at District Music all four years at GHS. He was also a member of the state championship basketball team last March. He received seven letters in choir, basketball and tennis. Desmul is studying finance and music while playing basketball at Luther College in Iowa.

Tea Mergenthaler — is studying English for Secondary Education at University of Montana at Western. She was a state champion for the Wolfpack in Duo Humorous Interp and a recipient of the Founder’s Degree in Theatre.

Tadan Gilman — earned 10 letters and excelled in three sports for the Wolfpack. He received the Alpha Male Award for the outstanding student-athlete. He was first-team all-state in football his junior year as a linebacker and again his senior season as a quarterback. He participated in both the MonDak and Shrine football games. He was named to the all-tournament basketball team while being a member of the state championship basketball squad. Gilman also placed third in the javelin during his senior year and fourth during his junior season. He is currently attending Montana State, studying Exercise Science and playing football.

Brock Adkins — a state champion for the Wolfpack in Original Oratory during his senior year. He also placed eighth in Duo Interp his freshman season, fifth in Original Oratory his sophomore season. He was second in Original Oratory and fifth in Duo Interp his junior year. Adkins competed at nationals three times and received the Founders Degree in theatre while earning 13 letters in cross country, speech, theatre and track. He graduated with a perfect GPA, participated in student council four years and was the Student Body President during his senior year. Adkins is attending the University of Montana Honor College.

Justin Gibson — a state champion wrestler for the Wolfpack last winter, his senior season. He placed fourth at state as sophomore and fifth as a freshman. He earned seven letters in football and wrestling while earning a 4.0 GPA. He was also a member of the National Honor Society. Gibson is currently wrestling for Providence College.
