Glacier battled on the mats in dual losses to Missoula Sentinel, 47-21, and Polson, 48-18, on Thursday but the effort and competitiveness continues to catch the attention of Wolfpack head coach Ross Dankers.

“The kids put together a real good start to the season in the practice room,” he said.

“Every time they have gotten on the mat, they have improved.”

Lane Wilson, 126 pounds, went 2-0 on the day for Glacier. He pinned Kyle Krstulich of Sentinel in 3:37 and won by forfeit against Polson.

Cody Frost (103) and Kael Willis (113) split for the Wolfpack, as did Caden Willis (132).

Frost pinned Corbin Likeric of Sentinel in 18 seconds and was pinned by Polson’s Maysn Cowell in 1:15.

Kael Willis was pinned by Rene Pierre of Polson in 40 seconds, but pulled out an impressive 11-10 decision over Sentinel’s Novik Thomas.

“He was down by four,” Dankers said late in the third period.

“He got a five-point move.”

Willis scored on a reversal and put Thomas on his back with 10 seconds remaining for a 3-point nearfall.

“He put on a flurry,” Dankers said.

“Finished strong, kept believing. It was a come-from-behind victory, fun to watch for a freshman in his first varsity match at home.”

Caden Willis pinned Sentinel’s Tristan Traver in 5:01, but was pinned by Polson’s Bridger Wenzel in 50 seconds.

Glacier’s Tristan Little (120) dropped a tough 6-4 decision to Sentinel’s Dakota Thomas.

This was the final outing for all three teams before the holiday break.

“I’m really looking forward to rolling in the New Year,” Dankers said.

Up first for Glacier is the Ronan Invitational on Jan. 5-6. Polson is at the Bozeman Invitational the same dates.
