FVCC Senior Institute registration opens Feb. 1

| February 1, 2017 7:00 AM

Registration for Flathead Valley Community College’s annual Senior Institute opens Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 8 a.m. Designed for seniors ages 65 years and older, the program promotes lifelong learning and allows seniors to learn new information, develop and enhance skills, connect with other seniors and stay active during the winter months.

Seniors can enroll in one of the program’s 18 courses that cover topics ranging from the arts to science. The cost to enroll varies with each class. The program will meet for six consecutive Fridays, beginning Feb. 17 and concluding March 24. Students are treated to a complimentary lunch buffet and special program each Friday at 11:45 a.m. Classes follow lunch from 1 to 2:50 p.m.

Several new classes have been added to the roster this year, including “Agricultural Sustainability” taught by Dr. Heather Estrada, “History of Jazz” taught by Dee Fleming and “Canadian Rockies: Our Neighbors to the North” taught by Sharon Randolph.

Favorites such as “Creative Writing” with best-selling author Kathy Dunnehoff, “Line Dancing” with Roz Kristofferson and “Senior Passport to the World” with Dr. Gerda Reeb and Dr. Ami Mezahav are back on the schedule this year.

Classes fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Students may register in person at the FVCC Registration Office in Blake Hall on the college’s Kalispell campus, or registration forms can be mailed to the college. Students who did not attend Senior Institute last year or who have not participated in other credit classes at FVCC in the past 12 months must submit a non-degree application in addition to the registration form.

Mail-in registration forms with complete course descriptions and enrollment fees can be obtained by calling 406-756-3813 or by visiting www.fvcc.edu/seniorinstitute.
