Bulldogs claw past Corvallis

WHITEFISH — The Whitefish boys found their form in the second half against Corvallis, scoring 22 fourth quarter points to rally for a 55-50 Class A nonconference basketball victory on Friday.

The Bulldogs (5-9) fell in a big hole at halftime, going on a lull in the second quarter that saw them down 29-18 at half despite a tie score after the first quarter.

Whitefish began to crawl back in the third quarter, scoring 15 points in the frame to cut its deficit to 37-33 entering the fourth. The Bulldogs outscored Corvallis 22-13 in the final eight minutes to secure the win.

Sawyer Silliker had 20 points and Derek Kastella 17 for Whitefish.

Tyler Nixon led Corvallis (4-10) with 16 points.

LIBBY — Libby (8-6) took Missoula Loyola (11-2) to the brink in a Class B nonconference game, but couldn’t convert enough buckets in the final quarter to pull off the upset.

Ryggs Johnston scored 20 points, including three 3-pointers in the third quarter to keep Libby within reach. Trailing 20-15 after the first quarter, the Loggers cut the Loyola lead to 47-45 entering the fourth quarter.

Libby chipped the score to 56-53 with less than a minute to play but the Rams closed strong.

Parker Davis had a game-high 25 points to lead Loyola and Jack Lincoln had 19 points.

LIBBY — Libby went on an 18-5 run to close the first half, taking a lead and controlling the rest of the game in a nonconference win over Missoula Loyola.

The Loggers (8-6) trailed 12-9 after the first quarter but found some rhythm in the second quarter, taking a 27-17 lead into half.

Libby led 40-24 after three quarters before cruising to the finish.

Shannon Reny led all scorers with 25 points and Jayden Winslow had 11 points for Libby.

Tessa Burke topped Loyola (3-11) with 17 points.

Libby hosts Class A Frenchtown today for a nonconference contest at 6 p.m

WHITEFISH — Corvallis (9-5) kept pace with the best in the Southwest by beating Whitefish (0-14) on the road in a nonconference game.

Varsity games for both boys and girls with Troy have been rescheduled for next Friday due to bus problems.

The boys game will start at 6 p.m. The girls game will tip off at 7:30.
