OSHA’s new requirements

Safety takes center stage at the next Brown Bag Series: Blueprint for Business Success meeting from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

The session will be held in Room 25 of the Gateway Community Center in Kalispell. Bring a sack lunch.

Bryan Page of the Montana Safety and Health Bureau is the facilitator. He will talk about the new Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s new filing requirements — “what you need to know to not get fined.”

Thinking Thursdays start Feb. 16

The Kalispell Chamber of Commerce launches its Thinking Thursdays business skills seminars on Thursday, Feb. 16.

The free program runs from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Kalispell Chamber’s conference room, 15 Depot Park in Kalispell. Join Learned Reality to hear about tips to modernize your employee training practices. Learn about issues local businesses are facing and how e-learning could save your business thousands of dollars in training costs.

Kalispell Chamber lunch

Kalispell Public Schools Superintendent Mark Flatau will present information about the upcoming construction projects at Kalispell schools during the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon on Tuesday, Feb. 21. He will show renderings of the planned new elementary school and talk about construction schedules and the scope of work for Flathead High School, Kalispell’s five elementary schools, the Vo-Ag Center and Linderman Education Center. He will also speak about the upcoming upgrades to Legends Field and new classes coming for the 2017-18 school year.

Columbia Falls Chamber

The Columbia Falls Chamber of Commerce turns its attention to the timber industry during the monthly lunch meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Todd Morgan, director of the Forest Industry and Manufacturing Research department of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of Montana, will discuss the trends in Montana’s forest industry and some of the key items impacting the industry, including description of the components of the industry, changes in employment and wages, as well as capacity and land ownership. He will also look at U.S. housing, the Canadian lumber situation, federal lands issues and the outlook for state’s industry.

Lunch starts at 11:45 a.m. at the North Valley Hospital professional building at 235 Nucleus Ave. Cost is $12. No reservation required.

Lakeside-Somers awards night

The ninth annual Lakeside-Somers Chamber of Commerce Captain’s Award Banquet is planned March 23 at The Rack Shack in Somers.

Cocktails start at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m.

The Chamber Member of the Year will be named, and the Captain’s Award will be given to the Community Service Volunteer of the Year. Nominations are still being taken; email lakesidesomers@gmail.com.
