Flathead Valley Community College is still accepting participants into this year’s Senior Institute program.

Designed for people 65 years old and older, the program works to connect seniors with other people and to stay active during the winter months.

This year’s program includes 18 different classes, covering topics from agriculture to history to creative writing.

The program will meet for six consecutive Fridays, beginning Feb. 17 and ending March 24. The cost to enroll varies with each class, with total tuition varying from about $44 to $56.

This year, the program is offering six new courses:

“Age-ing to Sage-ing,” looks at human development in the later years and ways to create a new definition and purpose for aging. The emphasis is on current trends and research.

“Canadian Rockies: Our Neighbor to the North,” is a lesson in the diversity of the Rockies. The instructor, Sharon Randolph, will guide students on a historical exploration of Canada’s Mountain National Parks, including places like Banff, Glacier of British Columbia and Yoho. The course will focus on the adventures of early exploration, settlement, and tourism along the region along with the effects of world history events on the parks.

Students can participate in a lunch buffet and special program each Friday at 11:45 a.m. Classes follow lunch from 1 to 2:50 p.m.

Classes fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Students can register in person at the FVCC Registration Office in Blake Hall on the college’s Kalispell campus, or mail registration forms to the college.

Students who did not attend Senior Institute last year or who have not participated in other credit classes at FVCC in the past 12 months must submit a non-degree application in addition to the registration form.
